Without wasting much time, let’s discuss the ingredients you need and the simple preparation process involved in making these flavorful and chewy cookies.
Ingredients (Makes ~20 cookies)
These ingredients can make up to 20 cookies. Feel free to increase or reduce their quantity BASED on how many cookies you want.
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp matcha powder (culinary grade)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Optional: Sugar free chocolate chips and sugar for dusting after baking
Easy Step-by-Step:
As I mentioned earlier, these instructions are simple, easy, and straightforward. Even a beginner chef won’t have any problem manoeuvring around them.
The first thing is to preheat your oven. 165°C / 330°F is the best temperature.
Get your baking tray and line it with parchment paper.
In a bowl, mix butter and powdered sugar until it has a smooth texture.

Afterwards, add vanilla, matcha, flour, and salt into the mix and continue to stir until a soft dough forms. If you want, add some sugar-free chocolate chips. I used white chocolate!
Roll the dough into small balls and slightly flatten. You can also shape them into discs or rectangles.

The next step is to bake your shaped dough. Simply line them up on the baking tray and bake for 18 – 20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

Before serving, let the cookies cool completely.
You can dust them with extra powdered sugar or matcha if you want (optional).
Can I Use Any Kind of Matcha?

There are 2 major kinds of matcha. We have the ceremonial grade and the culinary grade. The ceremonial grade is mainly used for tea ceremonies, and so on.
It is for pure enjoyment and is known for its naturally sweet flavor.
On the other hand, the culinary grade matcha is used in recipes. It’s not as sweet as the ceremonial grade, but has a stronger taste.
The best matcha to use is the culinary grade. Its robust flavor pairs perfectly with other ingredients like butter and sugar, giving your cookies the perfect blend of sweet and earthy flavor.
Important Tips For These Cookies!

These extra tips will ensure your cookies come out 100% perfect EVERY TIME.
- Use a fine culinary matcha. This adds a depth of flavor to your cookies. It also makes your cookies visually appealing through its enhanced color. With this, you get to not just make something delicious but also enticing.
- Avoid overbaking your cookies to prevent them from having a firm, less-chewy texture when they cool.
- These cookies can be stored for up to 1 week in an airtight container.

Enjoy your delicious cookies, and don’t forget to save this recipe on your Pinterest boards!
