My Favorite Crispy Honey Garlic Chicken Marinade

This is one of my favorite ways to make chicken!

With the honey garlic marinade, my meat is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It’s the kind that makes you smile after just one bite.

Do you want to learn how to make this as well?

Then, read this article to find out more.

My Favorite Crispy Honey Garlic Chicken Marinade Recipe

My Favorite Crispy Honey Garlic Chicken Marinade

Ingredients (for 1.5–2 lbs boneless chicken thighs or breasts):

Here are the needed ingredients to make this honey garlic chicken marinade:

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (optional, but adds richness)
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (or 1/2 tsp ground)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (helps with crispiness later)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: 1/2 tsp chili flakes for a bit of heat

Instructions:

This no-fail process is what I follow EVERY TIME, and it always delivers consistent results.

  1. The first step is making the marinade. Whisk together all the ingredients in a medium bowl. Ensure they are well mixed and blended.
  1. Place the chicken in a zip-top bag or dish and pour the marinade over it. Toss the chicken to ensure an even coating.
  1. Close the bag and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. But you can leave it for up to 8 hours (this depends on the depth of flavor you desire).
  1. Take out your chicken from the marinade and pat dry for extra crispiness.
  1. The next step is cooking. Here are the 3 possible ways to make that happen:
  • Pan-Fry: Heat oil over medium-high heat and cook chicken for 5–6 minutes per side until golden and cooked.
  • Air Fry: Spray chicken lightly with oil and air fry at 390°F (200°C) for 10–14 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Bake: Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 20–25 minutes, broiling the last 2 minutes for crisp edges.
  1. If you want to give your chicken an extra flavor, try this glazing method. Simply simmer the leftover marinade for 5 minutes and brush it over the cooked chicken before serving.
  1. Once this is done, serve your chicken. You can sprinkle it with sesame seeds and green onions. Pair it with rice, noodles, or stir-fried veggies for a wholesome meal.

Pan-Frying:

This makes your chicken crispy. Within 5-6 minutes of cooking each side, you can achieve a golden, crispy exterior PLUS a juicy interior.

It works best when you want a quick, crispy dinner.

Air Frying:

If you don’t want “oil”, you can still get a crispy chicken with the air frying method. It takes about 10-14 minutes of cooking time.

This method is perfect when you want a healthier, crispy texture with less mess.

Baking:

I love this method because it is easy and hands-off. It’s great when you are cooking for a group of people. Within 20-25 minutes, everything will be ready.

You can use this method when you have a lot to handle. Simply toss in your marinated chicken and walk away.

Flavorful Swaps and Add-Ins You Can Try

Crispy Honey Garlic Chicken Marinade

Are you looking to swap or add ingredients? Here are a few ideas for you:

  • Instead of honey, use maple syrup.
  • You can add orange zest to give your marinade a tropical flavor.
  • Use tamari instead of low-sodium soy.
  • Add an extra kick of heat to your marinade by including chili paste into the mix.

I am sure you learnt a great deal from this article.

With the simple process I outlined, you won’t have any problem making a crispy honey-garlic chicken marinade that delivers big on flavor and texture EVERY TIME!
