Of all the recipes I have searched for and tried, this is my favorite. It is simple to make (even though it seems like it requires a lot of ingredients) and is ideal for anyone who doesn’t have much time to cook.
So, without further ado, start preparing all the necessary ingredients to start making this recipe!
Cajun Shrimp With Fried Rice Recipe

I decided to divide the ingredients into two sections, because we will need the base ingredients and the ingredients to make the Cajun seasoning. Most of the ingredients are seasonings, so don’t be intimidated by the list!
Ingredients
- 1 ⅓ cups uncooked long grain white rice;
- 2 ⅔ cup chicken broth;
- 1 pound large or jumbo shrimp – peeled and de-veined;
- 4 tablespoons butter – melted, divided;
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic;
- 1/2 red bell pepper – cut into small pieces;
- cajun seasoning – see below.
Cajun seasoning
- 1 ½ teaspoons paprika;
- 1 teaspoon salt;
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder;
- ½ teaspoon cracked black pepper;
- ½ teaspoon onion powder;
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano – may sub an Italian herb blend or Herbs de Provence;
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper;
- ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes.
Instructions
Step 1 – Make the Cajun Seasoning
Combine paprika, salt, garlic powder, black pepper, onion powder, dried oregano, cayenne pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes in a small bowl. Mix thoroughly until well blended.

Follow Me NowStep 2 – Prepare the Rice Base
In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic, the red pepper, and half of the prepared Cajun seasoning. Stir in the uncooked rice until well coated.
Step 3 – Cook the Rice
Pour in the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer, cover the skillet, and cook for 15 minutes. Stir the rice 1-2 times during cooking to ensure even cooking.
Step 4 – Season the Shrimp
While the rice is cooking, place the peeled and de-veined shrimp in a bowl. Combine the remaining 2 tablespoons of melted butter with the remaining half of the Cajun seasoning. Pour this mixture over the shrimp and toss to ensure the shrimp are well coated.
Step 5 – Cook the Shrimp
Once the rice has cooked for 15 minutes, stir the seasoned shrimp into the skillet with the rice. Cover and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes, or until the shrimp turn pink and opaque.
Step 6 – Finish and Serve
(Optional) Garnish with chopped parsley for a fresh touch. Serve the Cajun shrimp and rice hot and enjoy!
