I’m Portuguese, so I decided to publish a dessert that is very well known in Portugal, the chocolate mousse cake! This dessert, also known as the double chocolate dessert, is very well known in Portugal.
This dessert seems complicated, but the truth is that it only took me 30 minutes to prepare (except the cooking time, of course). To be honest, it took me longer to take step-by-step photos than it did to cook!
For this recipe, I prepared a very detailed step-by-step guide, with photos of all the steps, so I’m sure you won’t have any difficulty making this delicious dessert from start to finish!

Follow Me NowStep 2 – Break the Eggs

Break the eggs and separate the yolks from the whites. Add the sugar to the yolks and beat until it turns into a whitish eggnog.

Now, without stopping beating, add the melted chocolate in the mixture.

Beat until everything is well mixed.
Step 3 – Beat the Egg Whites
Beat the egg whites until stiff and, carefully, fold the egg whites into the chocolate.

Step 4 – Divide the Mousse in Half

After everything is well mixed, divide the mousse in half. Store the mousse without flour in the fridge for now.
To one of the halves, add the flour and mix.

Step 5 – It’s Oven Time!

Place the mousse mixture with flour in a springform pan (26 cm) greased with butter.
Place in the preheated oven at 350ºF (or 180ºC) and let it bake for 12 to 15 minutes. (12 minutes it’s the ideal time for me).

As soon as the cake is cooked, remove it and let it cool for about 1 hour.
Step 6 – Let’s Assemble the Cake!
After the cake has cooled, place the mousse on top.

Place in the fridge for 6 to 8 hours until the mousse is very consistent.

When serving, decorate with chocolate shavings (optional).
It looks like we’ve reached the end! Did you like it? I’m sure yes! If you haven’t had time to try it today, save this pin in your albums!
