Family dinners are special moments. I never miss dinner with my family. It has become a ritual in my home. Because of this, I constantly think of unique ways to spice up dinner. This was when I stumbled on the chicken and rice casserole recipe. 

This meal is sumptuous, satisfying, nutritious, and a perfect treat everyone loves. 

In this article, I will give you a detailed breakdown of how to make this mouth-watering chicken and rice casserole recipe.

Mouth-Watering Chicken and Rice Casserole Recipe

Ingredients

Below are the ingredients for the mouth-watering chicken and rice casserole dinner recipe:

  • ½ cup of water
  • 2¼ cups of milk
  • ¾ cup of sour cream
  • 2 cups of minute rice (uncooked)
  • 3 cups of finely diced cooked chicken
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Parsely
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup
  • 1 package of dry onion soup mix
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup

Sometimes, I use the leftover chicken in my freezer to make the casserole. There is nothing bad in doing that. You don’t have to use “fresh” ingredients.

In addition to this, you can improvise with the ingredients as you want.

For example, rather than using sour cream sauce, sometimes, I use Greek yogurt. If you are not a fan of sour cream, then, your casserole would still taste great without the cream.

How I Make the Chicken and Rice Casserole

In this section, I will show you how I prepare my chicken and rice casserole meal. If you follow the same process, the result will be outstanding. 

  1. Preheat the oven to about 350 degrees Celsius.
  2. Before cooking, I mix all the ingredients. Now, you can leave out the parsley because it’s meant to garnish the chicken and rice casserole (after cooking).
  3. Once the chicken, rice, and other ingredients are properly and evenly mixed, the next step is to pour them out into a 9×13 casserole dish. To prevent burns, ensure the dish has been sprayed with a non-stick spray (this is important).
  4. Cover the casserole dish with aluminum foil and bake for 40 – 45 minutes.
  5. You need to bake for an extra 10 – 15 minutes AFTER removing the aluminum foil. With this, you can monitor your chicken and rice casserole – to ensure it comes out in a golden brown color. 
  6. Food is ready to be served.

All of these take an average of 45 minutes to 1 hour. This mouth-watering chicken and rice casserole dish is a speciale. You can eat it alone or share it with your loved ones.

Now, if you are expecting a few friends, then, increase the quantity of the ingredients as stated above to meet up with the volume of people.

Furthermore, you can add other ingredients as you like. Sometimes, I love to add veggies, toppings, and cheddar cheese. They spice up my casserole dish – adding to its flavor.
