That is until I discovered this recipe! When I discovered it, I came to realize that making Tater Tot Casserole is the simplest thing there is. I know it seems like a very complex dish, but the truth is that anyone can get the recipe right practically the first time.

My Secret Tater Tot Casserole Recipe

I call this recipe secret, because I had never seen it on any cooking website. It was my aunt who taught me how to make this recipe. So, it was the recipe that changed my “luck” with this dish. I will leave all the ingredients below to make this recipe.
Ingredients:
The ingredients I will list below serve about 4 to 6 people. If you want to make it for just two people, I recommend using half the ingredients.
- 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded or diced
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (optional)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 package (32 oz) frozen tater tots

You’ll have your recipe ready in just 7 steps! It seems complicated, but believe me, it’s one of the simplest recipes you’ll ever make. Are you ready?
Step 1 – Preheat Oven

Step 2 – Prepare the Chicken
If you haven’t already, cook the chicken until fully cooked and shred or dice it into bite-sized pieces
Step 3 – Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded chicken, cream of chicken soup, cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, chopped onion, mixed vegetables (if using), garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined.
Step 4 – Assemble the Casserole
Spread the mixture evenly in a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Step 5 – Add Cheese and Tater Tots
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the mixture. Then, arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer over the cheese.
Step 6 – Bake
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy and the casserole is bubbly around the edges.
Step 7 – Serve
Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your delicious Tater Tot Casserole with Chicken!
Tips:
- You can use leftover rotisserie chicken for a quicker preparation.
- For an extra cheesy casserole, sprinkle additional cheese on top during the last 10 minutes of baking.
