Follow Me NowSalmon is one of those meals that should be effortless… but somehow ends up bland, dry, or weirdly “fishy.” Not today.
This is the one marinade I keep coming back to because it works every single time, no matter how you cook it. It’s the same vibe as my My Go-To Pork Marinade and my famous grilled chicken marinade recipe: simple ingredients, bold flavor, and zero overthinking. Mix it in a bowl in 2 minutes, coat your salmon, and let the fridge do the heavy lifting.

Savory. Slightly sweet. Garlicky. Clean. It makes salmon taste like you actually know what you’re doing.
Easy Salmon Marinade Recipe (Baked, Grilled, Air Fryer)

The Marinade (enough for ~1.5 to 2 lb salmon)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (or low-sodium soy sauce)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar (or lemon juice)
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp grated ginger (optional but so good)
- Optional heat: 1/2 tsp sriracha or chili flakes
How to use it
- Mix everything in a bowl.
- Place salmon in a dish or zip bag and pour the marinade over.
- Marinate in the fridge (times below).
- Cook using your favorite method, then spoon a little of the liquid from the dish over the salmon after cooking for extra shine.
How long to marinate salmon? It’s easy!
Salmon doesn’t need hours. In fact, too long can make the texture soft or “cured,” especially if you use lemon.
- Best window: 20 to 45 minutes
- Thicker fillets: up to 1 hour
- Do not go past: 2 hours (especially with lemon juice)
If you’re short on time, even 10 minutes still adds flavor.
Cook it three ways
Baked (easy + hands-off):
Bake at 400°F / 200°C for 10–14 minutes, depending on thickness. (If it flakes easily and looks opaque, you’re done.)

Follow Me NowAir fryer (fast + juicy):
Air fry at 390°F / 200°C for 7–10 minutes. Don’t overcrowd the basket.
Grilled (best char):
Because this marinade has honey, grill over medium heat, about 3–5 minutes per side depending on thickness. If you want more color, finish with a quick 30-second sear.

Salmon doesn’t need a long recipe or a complicated sauce. This one marinade does the job every time: quick to mix, easy to remember, and it works for baked, grilled, or air fryer nights when you just want dinner to taste amazing without effort.
Save this on Pinterest so you’ve always got it ready the next time you’re staring at salmon and thinking “how do I make this not boring?”.
And if you try it, tell me how you cooked yours (baked, grilled, or air fryer) in the comments. If you’ve got questions about timing, swaps, or how long to marinate, drop them below, I’ll help you get it perfect.
Have fun cooking!
