Once the cooler weather arrives, I start wanting soup for dinner at least a few nights a week. There is just something about a big pot simmering on the stove that makes fall evenings feel a little more comfortable.

These 21 fall soup recipes include everything from creamy pumpkin and butternut squash soups to hearty chicken, sausage, bean, tortellini, and wild rice options. Some are perfect for busy weeknights, while others are the kind I like to make when I have a little more time and want something extra cozy.

1) Lemony Tuscan White Bean and Kale Soup By The Kitchn

This is one I make when I want something cozy but not overly heavy. The creamy white beans, tender kale, and bright lemon keep every bowl fresh and satisfying. I like serving it with thick toast, and the leftovers make an easy lunch the next day.

Check out the recipe here

If you prefer letting dinner cook while you get on with your day, we also put together a list of 19 easy fall crockpot soups that are perfect for cozy weeknight dinners.

2) Roasted Butternut Squash Soup By Feasting at Home

I love this soup when butternut squash starts showing up everywhere in fall. Roasting the squash and apple gives it a deeper, sweeter flavor, while the ginger keeps it from tasting flat. I usually serve it with crusty bread and keep the toppings simple.

3) One Pot Lasagna Soup By Sweet Pea’s Kitchen

This was a big hit on a chilly weeknight because it gives you all the comfort of lasagna without dealing with layers and a casserole dish. It is hearty enough for dinner on its own, and I like adding plenty of Parmesan right before serving.

4) Coconut Curry Pumpkin Soup By Ahead of Thyme

Pumpkin soup can get boring fast, but the coconut and curry make this one completely different. It is creamy, warmly spiced, and especially good when you want a meatless fall dinner. I like adding something crunchy on top so every bowl has a little texture.

5) Ultimate Pumpkin Sausage Soup By Garlic & Zest

Pumpkin and sausage are such a good fall combination, especially when I want a soup that actually feels like dinner. This one is hearty without being too heavy, and I like the contrast from the kale and lemon. Use mild sausage if you are feeding kids.

6) Creamy Sweet Potato Soup By Dishing Delish

I make this when I have sweet potatoes sitting around and want something smoother than a chunky vegetable soup. Roasting the vegetables first gives the finished soup much more flavor. It is simple enough for a weeknight, but it also works nicely as a holiday starter.

7) Apple Carrot Ginger Soup By It’s a Veg World After All

The apple, carrot, and ginger combination is one of my favorite ways to make a fall soup feel fresh instead of heavy. The apples add sweetness, while the ginger gives it a little kick. I like it especially well for lunch with a sandwich or warm bread.

8) Creamy Chicken Wild Rice Soup By Vikalinka

9) Parsnip and Apple Soup By Dana’s Table

Parsnips do not get enough attention in fall, and this soup is a great reason to buy them. The apple softens their earthy flavor and gives the soup a gentle sweetness. I especially like this one as a starter when I am serving a bigger fall or holiday meal.

10) Potato Carrot and Leek Soup By Our Balanced Bowl

This is a great clean-out-the-produce-drawer soup when I have potatoes, carrots, and leeks to use. Roasting the vegetables before blending gives it much more depth than simply boiling everything. I like serving it with toasted bread and a little cream swirled on top.

11) Creamy Sausage Tortellini Soup By Our Balanced Bowl

This is one of those soups that disappears fast at my house. Sausage, cheese tortellini, and a creamy broth make it feel like proper comfort food, and the kale helps balance the richness. I use mild sausage for family dinners and add extra red pepper flakes to my bowl.

13) Thai Red Curry Sweet Potato Soup By Running on Real Food

I love the combination of sweet potato, coconut, lime, and Thai red curry when I want something warmer and more interesting than a basic blended soup. It is especially good for meal prep because the flavors settle in beautifully, and I usually make enough for lunch the next day.

14) Chipotle Black Bean & Sweet Potato Soup By From My Bowl

This soup has the smoky, slightly spicy flavor I start craving as soon as the weather cools down. Black beans make it filling, while sweet potato keeps the chipotle heat balanced. I like finishing each bowl with lime and something fresh on top to brighten everything up.
